Your first visit
If you are experiencing blurry vision and glasses aren't helping, your optometrist or family physician may refer you to one of our ophthalmologists for a cataract assessment.
Once we receive the referral:
You will be scheduled with one of our cataract surgeons for a cataract assessment appointment. This appointment may be long, as we will do vision testing and a scan of your eye will be done prior to seeing the doctor. Your eyes will also require dilation, making driving dangerous; please bring a driver!
*Please note- even if your cataracts have been diagnosed by another eye specialist, we still require you to come in for a consultation with one of our own specialists. Every case is different, and treatment options may vary.
Once it is determined that you are a candidate for surgery, the doctor will go over the procedure and discuss the risks and benefits. Feel free to ask questions!
If you decide not to proceed with surgery at this time, you may be asked to return again in 6 months to a year for reassessment or monitoring.
If you proceed with surgery, you will be sent to our re-booking desk, where one of our experienced medical staff will guide you through the necessary surgical paperwork. This paperwork must be completed so that you can be put on the surgery waiting list.
An appointment will be made within a month or a few months time for a lens measurement with our skilled technician. There may be a fee for this, depending on your lens choice. Your technician will discuss this with you.
Depending on your personal case and surgical time availability, you may be waiting for cataract surgery for months. You are welcome to book a follow-up appointment for a reassessment if you feel like there has been a significant change in your eyesight since your initial cataract consultation.
